Message from the deep

The seal on the left has the image of a dove with an olive branch in its beak and the only written words found in the wreck of the slave ship, earing an important and ironic message from the past - peace and love! That is a message that invites reflection. The name Fredensborg means Castle of Peace. The Fredensborg is the best-documented wreck of a slave ship from the transatlantic slave trade found to date. Remains of the cargo and artefacts that were rescued and preserved archive material provide an outstanding picture of life aboard a European slave ship engaged in the Atlantic triangular trade.

The Fredensborg is now under sail on her third journey in the triangular route, this time with a cargo of a culture of peace and important information as a part of UNESCO`s Slave Route project.
